Pilgrims for Peace is a broad alliance of advocates for genuine peace, a lasting peace based on freedom, democracy and social justice. We are Christians, Muslims and people of other faiths. We come from our churches, academic institutions and organizations, to call for the formal resumption of peace negotiations between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front of the Philippines (MILF). 

We have agreed to undertake jointly and individually, with greater cooperation and coordination, the following: 

·    Support and advocate the peace process in general, and the peace negotiations between the GRP and NDFP and MILF in particular.

·    Make representations to all concerned (GRP, NDFP, MILF, foreign governments) through petitions, statements, position papers, paid ads; i.e. our unity statement, an appeal to the Dutch government, a letter to the Norwegian government, appeal to the European Council and through direct audience when possible.

·    Undertake peace education, information and research

·    Organize mass actions, symposia, fora and other activities supportive of the peace process and negotiations.

·    Articulate the people’s stake in the peace process, especially the peace negotiations and thereby build a conscious peace constituency among people clamoring and struggling for basic social reforms.

·    Organize other peace formations with specific or localized scope.

·    Set up a network for coordination and communications among allied organizations, individuals

·    Relate, cooperate and undertake joint activities with other peace advocacy groups and individuals.

·    Lobby in Congress.

·    Demand greater transparency in the peace negotiations and process (e.g. US hand / factor, back-chanelling, GRP’s 9-point guidelines on the CPP-NPA-NDF).

·    Be on the look-out for developments in other areas that affect the peace process (e.g. Sept.11 and the US-led war on terrorism, scandals, scams, controversies and crises).

·    Encourage and promote studies on the peace process and negotiations.

·    Media Advocacy.

·    International advocacy – networking; representations to foreign governments for support for the peace process and negotiations.

·    Finance-generation to support activities.
